Well my msi radeon hd 5970 was a pain in the ass so I filled a rma request and they've proposed to swap it with a msi radeon hd 6970. Should I take the offer or do I have any better options? Has anyone dealt with msi support before who settled for a better swap option?

i think they should give you something similar in performance but i don't think they can give you the 7k series as replacement. did you ask them why they can't give you another 5970?

Thanks to your suggestion I sent them an email to ask why. Still awaiting for a reply.

HD 5970 is faster than HD 6970. I would not take it, and if they cannot give you another HD 5970, you should demand for HD 7950 instead.

I agree with sunius. They have to either give you the same card or better.

Ok they updated their offer, now they are offering a MSI 7870 hawk too. they basically ignored my question about why I cant have a 5970.

So what do you guys think?

i think they no longer have 5970 in stock since the card has been EOLed by AMD. but it doesn't mean they can give you something that perform worse than 5970. i think 5970 sit between 7950 and 7870 in term of performance. that is if CF working properly. if not it perform like a single 5870. if they can't really give you any better than that then you have to make do with 7870. just OC the card.

personally i'd take an OCed 7870 over 5970 any day. but that's just me though :p

What about the 6970? Does 7870 perform better than 6970?

yes it is. 7870 is a bit faster than previous gen fastest gpu (GTX580).

I replied them and asked to negotiate on a R7950 or R7970 instead. Wish me luck :D
