I would recommend the 670 only if you don't want to overclock because it beats the 7950 at stock. But when overclocked the 7950 will beat the 670 overclocked to it's max. So do you plan on overclocking?

how hot will the 7950 get when overclocked to its max on full load?
How much betterwould it get?

Nobody will be able to tell you how hot it will be it depends on case airflow, ambient temperature, and will vary from card to card.

Overclocking is really easy now adays so I would at least do a light overclock no matter what card you get.

Your also comparing a non reference card with a reference card. I would get a ASUS TOP 670 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121637 but that's just me.

Non reference cards will be factory overclocked and the cooling on them is way better and quieter.
