Display resolution question

I just got my new build put together and Win7 installed, what next?

Why will the display fit to my 27" at 1600x900 but there will be black around the edges if I do 1920x1080(it doesn't fit to the screen). I've tried adjusting through AMD Catalyst control panel and the Control panel, it doesn't work either way.

Are you using a HDMI cable by any chance?

If yes, go into Catalyst, then My Digital Flat Panels, the Scaling options. Tweak the over/underscan slider until the black border is gone.
