My current card is the Nvidia Geforce 9400 GT 512mb

I have looked at a local store where I buy my parts and these are the upgrades im looking at

Nvidia Geforce GT 220 1gb Gddr2

Nvidia Geforce GTS 250 512mb Gddr3

Nvidia Geforce GT 610 1gb DDR3

ATI Radeon HD 6450 1gb Gddr3

Nvidia Geforce GT 610 2gb DDR3

These cards are priced from least expensive at top to most expensive at the bottom. Just wanted some insight about these because I will be using whichever card to play Skyrim and possibly Rift also.

For $100 you should be able to get a 7750 or a 7770 if you can find one on sale.

Ok well thats why im shying away from that is because I really have 95 this week. I mean you said the 250 is the best one out of all of those? It just seems like my 9400 GT will run games but it really seems to stress and strain.

The 250GTS is much better than the 9400GT - it is placed 14 tiers higher. A good upgrade should be at least 3 tiers higher. The 7750 is only 1 tier above the 250.

14 tiers higher?? I feel like the 9400 GT wasn't built for gaming. It seems to be a normal card.

I know what the tiers mean, its just that's insane

Is the memory on the card even worth looking at?

The 9400GT is not a gaming card. The 250GTS was a good gaming card 2 until about 2 years ago, but if you played games on the 9400 you will have much better performance with the 250. If you are playing at a resolution 1680x1050 or lower the 512MB VRAM will be enough with no AA. If you are playing with higher resolution you will need a card with more memory. None of the cards you listed above is good for gaming except the 250. You will also need to check if your PSU has at least 32A on the 12V rails for the GTS250, If not, will need to save more money and get the 7750 because it consumes much less power.
