My old 4350 has failed (possibly due to my overclocking), and now I'm looking for a new card at around $150, something that can run games at medium resolutions and settings. Here are my specs:

CPU: Pentium Dual Core E5500 (Wolfdale), 2.8GHz
Motherboard: ASUS P5QPL-AM
RAM: 2GB DDR2
PSU: 250W, came with the case :(

Should I get a better PSU, or any other component? I've seen the Radeon 7750 and the GT 640, can I run these with my current hardware?
Also, I can't buy from Newegg, because I'm in India. $150=~Rs.8000
Thank You.

Solution
Just go for the 7750. Anything more than that I think your CPU will start to show bottlenecking. Save the money for the 7770 + PSU and same some for what I have stated up top because that's the cheapest good option. Good luck!

No, I live in Cochin, and it's very hard to find good hardware in the local shops, so I'll probably have to buy online.

if you want a decent graphics card like 7750 or gtx 650 you will need to upgrade your psu. you have no other option. the 7750 is an awesome card, i own it and i know it
http://www.flipkart.com/sapphire-amd-ati-hd-7750-1-gb-gddr5-graphics-card/p/itmd7th7wdspnbrh?pid=GRCD7TGZBJSTR5YD&ref=72f90532-0db3-4fd4-a04f-edc819cf3c7d
this sapphire model is the best 7750 for a good price.
and the cheapest psu upgrade that you would need to power a 7750 is this. i own this one too. its not that good but its cheap but still much better than your stock 250 watt psu.

check it out and reply what you feel :)

please start your own thread if you wanna post a question.
there is no way you can get a 460 new for that price in india . you can search for a used one though.
for your budget i would suggest a 7750. its hands down the best card for 7000 rs . nothing even comes close except the 550 ti .
but 550 ti is a generation old and consumes more power so 7750 is best :wahoo:
He actually created a new thread. He is right the 460 is too expensive on Amazon. Well yes get the 7750 you can get things done. Check YouTube... Type 7750 then a game. Try Battlefield 3. It runs it quite well for the price ;)

OK, so if I must upgrade my PSU, what are the other cards (ie cards with aux power connectors) in that price range? I haven't looked into any of those yet. Also, the prices on Flipkartare about Rs. 1000 (~$20) higher than those in the local market.

PS: Should I upgrade any other component, like the RAM?

And also some bottleneck but I think the bottleneck shouldn't be much. You should plan on that PSU and the 7750. After some time get a Celeron and a nice MoBo. Here:
Celeron 2.5GHZ 2,450 INR

Good MSI motherboard 2,722 INR

CoolerMaster 430W PSU 1,905 INR:

Sapphire HD7750 after rebate 4,900 INR

And to know sipping prices and stuff:

If you want the FASTEST shipping it will be 3-5 days it will be approx. 1,650 INR.

Total with fast shipping: 13,650 INR which is 250$. :)

7750 is better than 5770 in that it performs better in dx 11 games , consumes much less power, doesnt require 6 pin power and is the latest generation product based on GCN architecture.
so its worth a little extra money over a 5770 :wahoo:

worth for paying rs 2000 more for 1-5 fps improvement?latest architecture is the one thing which is good their but why would any one pay rs 2000 more for similar card?btw the hd 7750 is just 1-5fps better then hd 5770:)

That's weird. I can't find my last post here. Moderators, has it been deleted? :??:
Anyway, what I posted was this: Should I wait for the next set of cards to come out? When are they coming out, and by how much will the prices of the current generation drop?

mohit9206

next gen amd cards can be expected jan-feb next year while nvidia is looking at april-may time frame.
yes current video card prices will drop
why dont you just get a 5770 for rs 5800 as the other guy mentioned ?
its a good deal

OK, so should I get the 7750 in December, or get a good PSU and a 7770, or should I wait till the next generation is released? Is the 7770 worth the extra money (including the cost of the PSU)? Or what about a PSU and the GTX 550 Ti?
As for Radeons, I'll stick with the 7xxx series.
