I bought some 256 MB SDRAM PC133 from ebay for dirt cheap, The brand is some obscure name. I ran CTSPD on it and it is certified for PC 133 but has a lot of 'errors' in some of the tests (which I don't quite understand).

Lately, my system has been freezing up while I;ve been doing some heavy duty stuff (web browsing, with some MS office documents open, and editing video). I know it's not my cooling (CPU temp is fine). It's not that my system hasno't frozen before, but it seems to be more common now.

My question -- if you get CHEAP memory, what are the telling signs?

Low reliability, performance, or both.

Was CAS 2, but switched to CAS 3 to be safe. I don't know if this made a difference or not.

When you buying cheap generic RAM you are taking chance with it. Some of my friend did not have any problem with cheap RAM but some have to replace it after a few day.

RAM is very cheap now. It is not worth to take change with cheap generic RAM.

If you were going to buy memory rather than taking you chances and buying someplace unknown, who would you buy from? Crucial? Money not a factor. SparkyKC
