Sorry I can't recommend either. There are 670's that cost $350 on Newegg right now (Before Rebate) that are about just as strong, and 7950's for $300 that OC to within 10% and they come with 3 free (GOOD) games.

P.S. Don't say you just want the strongest because then a 7970 GHz IS the strongest easily, and still costs about $50 less.

You don't need a TOP edition anymore - the regular assembly line has gotten to the point that they stopped needing to pick out the "top editions."

That being said, I'm with CaptainTom.

If you want to stick with Nvidia, a good 670 will be cheaper AND more powerful.

If not, a good 7970 is stronger than either, cheaper, and comes with three very good games.

I prefer EVGA's SC Signature out of the 3. And Cpt tom, don't come in a thread telling someone to get a 7970 or 7950 when they are not asking which to get "7970 or 680"

They are asking which "680" to get

1) The 7970 GHz is better because it is just flat out stronger than the GTX 680, and always has been.

Overall the 7970 GHz is ~5-10% stronger than the 680 since the 12.11 driver update as shown here:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Catalyst_12.11_Performance/23.html

2) In addition to this the 7970 GHz overclocks far more than the 680 does, and when this is taken into account the lead increases in AMD's favor. (Don't be afraid of overclocking btw, its super easy and safe as long as you aren't insane).

3) As for "The way it is meant to be played," Metro: 2033 is a Nvidia meant to be played game and yet the 7970 GHz stomps the 680 by a resounding 26% in 1080p as seen here:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Catalyst_12.11_Performance/13.html

As you can see "The way it is meant to played" means nothing and is just a marketing gimic. Usually it just means Physx was tacked on with the sole exception of Borderlands 2. However I have BL2 and a Radeon card. My PC can still handle physx fine on high, and easily on medium, but I just don't think it is worth it. Even when I had Nvidia cards, I never used Physx. The performance hit is almost never worth it.

4) However the 7970 GHz uses a bit more power than the 680, which I know can be costly in europe. However I still don't think it would be enough of a difference to matter, and if you want to save power get a GTX 670. The GTX 670 uses less power and is roughly the same as a 680.

Hope I helped! :)

bro idk what too say you made some good arguments why too chose the amd 7970 ghz or gtx 670

i fck.. hate this part of building a pc choosing the gpu

there is awlays a strong opponent

i almost finished my pc i have the i7 3770k
motherboard gigabyte z77x ud5h
16gb ram corsair 1600mhz

i really dont know wich one too choose

i really love graphics thats the reason i choosed pc gaming and not (xbox or ps3)

but im not a graphic freak i have a 17inch lcd monitor (from my old pc) so i play games at a maximum resolution of 1280*1024

ok im gonna ask at my local pc store if they can afford a 7970 ghz ask the price difference and look for a better power supply i think i need minimum 850watt

Look, if you want a GTX 680 then get the GTX 680. You've done your research enough to know which model you want, you're just having a hard time narrowing down the particulars.

I'm with Rockdpm on this one, the SC Signature is a VERY strong card and EVGA is one of the best manufacturers out there.

Two things:

1) With the CPU you chose, 500w would probably be enough. 600w if you want to do overkill

2) Honestly I lean towards AMD most of the time these days, but at your resolution a GTX 670 would probably make more sense.
