Hello,

Trying to research this has my head spinning. I just upgraded from XP Pro to Win 8 Pro and added 2 X 512 MB DDR 400 SDRAM for a total of 4 X 512 = 2 GB. Two questions - 1) Will this computer support 4 X 1 GB DDR 400 SDRAM and 2) can I upgrade my Video card so that I can add a second monitor? If so, what is the best value card for my system (HP Pavilion A1230n specs below)? I'm not a Gamer and use the computer for a small home office.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Your PC is ancient.

Any new $300 PC would be better.

I'm amazed that Win8 Pro allowed you to install it?

Does it have a 5.25 floppy drive?

How does that CRT work for ya?

You must have had the money to buy that because when it came out alcohol was illegal to buy.

Hey, how many hamsters does it take to power that thing?

Does the case have burn marks on it from the meteor that killed the dinosaurs?

Yes and Yes.
You can use 4 1GB mudules for 4GB. Also you can upgrade to a PCIe video card. When you upgrade your video card just make sure that your power supply can handle it because some GPU's can be power hungry.

Thanks for the response! I'll upgrade the memory for sure. If I upgrade to a PCIe video card and the supporting power supply will I need to do anything else? I realize that this is an ancient computer and I don't want to throw good money after bad.

you are not a gamer so i dont think you will need a high end card.

The below card has 2x DVI. You can run dual monitors with it.

If you need VGA you can get DVI to VGA.
