I notice a spec of dust when I hold the camera away from my eye (about3
inches or so) in the viewfinder. Holding the camera close to my eye I dont
see it. I don't see it in my pictures either. Is it worth trying to remove
it, or should I leave well enough alone? It is a 20D. I am guessing it is
only in the viewfinder, not on the sensor or mirror.

Dang.
Just took a pic of a blank wall, and I see a small grey circle. Tried
another lens and the same thing. Not the same place I see the dust in the
viewfinder... Off to the repair shop :<

You got two problems, a spec of dust in the viewfinder, which is nothing to
worry about and a spec of dust on the sensor as well. You need to learn
how to clean the sensor yourself or your going to be spending a BUNCH of
time/money at the repair shop. Sensor cleaning is a fact of life with that
camera.

Leave it alone unless it:
-affects the images (prob'y not)
-affects your ability to use the viewfinder.

Don't rush off yet.
If the 'grey circle' you see is visible in images taken at f/11 or
smaller apertures, then it's probably just dust on the sensor. Careful
use of an ear syringe is probably enough to remove it. Read you manual.

For the senor cleaning, I read the manual, and also read on these newsgroups
that the small blower trick almost never works. So, I took the camera back.
The saleperson fixed the sensor dust with the blower trick. I DO need to
learn how to clean that myself. They did not charge me, and seemed happy to
fix it for me. Still, no need to bother them if I can take care of it in the
future.

Thanks all for the advice and tips. It was dust on the sensor as well (two
problems). Sensor problem has been fixed, and I am not concerned about the
one spec in the viewfinder.
