Will this CPU make that much of a difference?

my build is
- 990FX UD-3 mobo
- 2 geforce GTX 550Ti SLI'd
- 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM
- GS600 watt corsair PSU
- AMD fx 4100 3.6 GHz CPU

my PC is strictly for gaming, thats all I do on there. If I upgrade to the AMD phenom X4 965 3.4 GHz would it make that much of a difference? I keep researching and people have different things to say about both.

I play WoW on ultra and battlefield 3 on high/ultra with no lag.

More about will make difference
  1. Do you already have this build?

If so, there's no need to "upgrade" to the phenom x4 965. I put upgrade in quotes simply because it's truly a waste of money if you already have the FX 4100. It would be more of an upgrade if you grabbed the FX 6300 or one of the new Piledriver CPUs. Even the FX 4300 would be a more cost effective upgrade.

Even then, I would still recommend you just stick with your current processor until you can afford to make the jump to sandy or ivy bridge.
  2. No, not worth it, if to upgrade only for a piledriver cpu(fx-6300 orfx-8320) since you have an am3+ mobo or an i5 intel cpu+mobo.
  3. Yeah I already do have the 4100.

Not looking to go intel anytime soon so I guess I should just stick with the 4100?
  4. Yes, stay with the 4100. Otherwise, it's just a waste of money to buy another CPU that will perform similarly.

However, the FX 4300 or 6300 would be decent upgrades.
  5. how about the FX 6100?
  6. No, the difference will be insignificant in games.
  7. okay cool so ill do the 6300 :)

the only upgrade that will significantly raise your fps is an intel build. i assume you play multiplayer and it sounds like you havent been told that bf3 multiplayer is EXTREMELY cpu bound in 64 player maps. you will get at least 20-30% better fps with an intel cpu mainly an i5 3570k or better BUT i know you dont want to go intel for some odd reason....?

i agree if i had to choose the lesser of the evils it would be a piledriver cpu.
  9. I just like AMD after doing a lot of research, I just prefer AMD.
