Hi,
I have a Sound Blaster Live! Platinum 5.1 sound card right now, and would like to know if I replace teh sound card itself w/ an Audigy, will I be able to hook up teh live drive and all to it?

If you check out Creative's web site, they say it's "Not supported or recommended". As to whether that means it will work or not if you try I don't know.

The drive unit is different, you have an SB1394 connector on the Audigy's drive, but the other two internal connectors appear to be the same. I don't think I'd try it though.

According to one review site I read a while back, the old Live Drive II will work on the Audigy.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

Good. Thanks. Now my next question is, is it worth it? Is Audigy noticeably better?

Most reviewers raved about its additional features, not its improved performance.

IMHO, the quality of EAX and the positioning of sound is a lot better. I couldn't really say on the quality of sound, as I re-configured my speaker setup when I got it.

Does Audigy still have the PCI bandwidth problem?

sure, but EAX Advanced HD probably won't be used in games for another 6 months.

Yeah, but I'm talkin' about current games here. In specific Operation Flashpoint. EAX enabled on the LIVE made the it like you were in a tunnel system - too much delay/reverb. With the Audigy you don't get that. Sounds like the engines for vehicles as they move past you have better 3D audio positioning as well. The only thing I've used that has advanced HD in it is that goldmine demo. And that sucks. Smooth transitions into different audio effects my a$$! If I can pick the change, it's not smooth.

I don't know. My computer never had that problem with the LIVE, so I wouldn't expect it to materialise with the Audigy.

I've read reviews that say that there haven't been any reports of that problem. But you just don't know until they're out there in numbers.

Wait for a few months 'til programmers get used to working with EAX Advanced HD, then the effect should be amazing.

I did not have problem with my SB LIVE until I put a video card into the PCI slot.

I hope so, It would make the purchase really worth it.

I'm going to see if I can score a functioning vieo card and try it in my PC. See what happens.

Reply to Novakain

OK. So I can't find one readily available unless I put it off until I get back to work to score one from there. I still do have my old LIVE card though. Seeing as the LIVE is such a PCI bandwidth hog, would it be worth installing it next to the Audigy and seeing if the Audigy gets any errors?

And the new Audigy can run circles around Flamethrower's Quadro 2 Pro. Just had to put this in:)

If it works for you then don't fix it.
