Hello Everyone,

I have a Dell 630i running an e8400. The set up has Vista 32, 4 gigs of ram and a 570 GTX. I am trying to decide whether or not to upgrade the pc a bit or buy a new one. From reading the forums it seems the e8400 still has quite a bit of life in it so I am wondering if I would see a performance increase in gaming were i simply to upgrade to Windows 7 64 at which time I could upgrade my memory to 8 gig. Is this a worthwhile option? The computer runs DDR2 pc2 8500 max in the motherboard.

Thank you for your input, its much appreciated.

For gaming performance, I think not. No game I know of uses more than 2 or possibly 3gb.

That said, I do like windows 7, and 8gb will allow the os to keep more code in ram for faster launch.

DDR2 ram is relatively expensive, so I might not want to up that.

Consider skipping a couple of generations and research an ivy bridge build. Your GTX570 is still a great card.

I would always suggest Windows 7 over Vista, I used vista for a few years and have used Windows 7 since release. It is a great operating system and is more responsive and easy to use than Vista ever was
