PC UPGRADE ADVICE PLEASE!!

Hi guys, i bought myself a hd7870 2gb and also a new PSU corsair 500w
Im not sure what my motherboard is, it came with my CPU athlon II x4
My friend said to me that my PSU will be too much for my motherboard, but i dont think thats true? Im sure this corsair will be fine with any kind of motherboard? Please advise,

yeah i thought this too about my CPU, i'll probably wait for when GTA V comes out next year, as this game is large in area i know its based a lot on CPU too so i'll probs upgrade then, i was thinking of an i3 3220, that should do the trick i think
