Hey

I am wondering what would be better: a 7950 Overclocked or a 660 ti Overclocked. The games I play are Planetside 2, Battlefield 3, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and other fps.

Thanks In Advance.

For the price the GTX 660 ti is better. It costs less, preform very close to 7950,consumes less power and runs colder(more OC room).Unless you are running at very high resolutions you will barely notice the difference between them.Further more nVidia releases firmware faster to optimize their cards while AMD only puts something new out to cope with nVidia cards.
I'd go for the better performance:ratio GTX 660 ti but if you want to spend much more money for a slight boost in performance the 7950 is for you.

The 660 Ti is hardly close to the reference 7950s anymore (let alone non-reference models), it doesn't consume much less power at all, it overclocks like crap in comparison, and you can notice the difference at any resolution thanks to MSAA.

Furthermore, AMD has been much better about driver optimization this generation. They went from behind Nvidia to in front of Nvidia purely through improving driver optimization greater than Nvidia did.

Some of the best 7950s are $300 too and come with almost $200 in free games. 660 Ti better value? No, it is not. It's not even close.

I just overclocked a 660ti to 1120Mhz with boost at 1300Mhz and memory to 7Ghz.... It matches the 7970 that only boosts to 1200Mhz and memory at 6.3Ghz. And it performs 5-10fps better than the 7950 in most games when boosted. Still stays under 60celcius under load.

And came with Assassin's Creed 3 free, much better than a bunch of old crap games I've already beaten a long time ago(A bunch of lame throwaway games is not what I call "value")

Here is a very recent review of the hd 7950 with the newest drivers overclocked http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/gpu_displays/club_3d_7950_royal_king_review/16, its being compared with a gtx 680 if you watch the video review..., Its the card to get in my opinion, just choose one with a good cooler and overclock it

7950 wins in an OC versus OC comparison and nowadays, it'll even win at stock versus stock. Furthermore, it's not just packaged with old games and any games that you don't like can simply be sold, so it's always valuable unless you waste them. That'd be a pretty stupid thing to waste.

EDIT: Also, the 7970 doesn't have boost and an overclocked 7970 beats an overclocked 660 Ti no problem. Frequencies aren't everything. Someone comparing an AMD CPU to a new Intel CPU would know that.

That driver (12.10) is slow compared to the current beta drivers (12.11 beta 8, which is also even more stable, so don't any of you bring in crap about it not being a WHQL releases yet) overall :)
