Connecting your GPU to the PSU directly a requirement?

Hello,

I recently bought a Radeon 7850 and realized I will need to buy a PCI express power cord for it since I lost my original one (didn't previously need it). I have two questions:

Can I still use this card without that connection or is that dangerous for my computer/GPU?

Also, I was looking at buying this PSU cord:

Is it OK that it's 1 cord that splits into two, or do I need to get one that's just 1 to 1?

The pci-e power connectors are required for the card to work. That cord should be fine.
