My laptop does not connect to another laptops wireless network

my hp dv6 can detect other computer's wireless network but cannot connect to them. i wonder what the problem is.

When you say "other computer's wireless network" do you mean that it's your wireless network that another computer connects to properly? If not and if it's someone else's network, you'd need their security key to be able to connect.
