Hey all,

I've been getting poor/inconsistent fps on games, even when changing the resolution to a lower setting. I'm looking for some advice as to how I can improve my fps/graphical performance.

Here are the specs:

Installed memory (RAM): 4.00 GB (3.25 GB usable)
System type: 32-bit Operating System
Windows 7

Graphics:

Display adapter type ATI Radeon HD 5450
Total available graphics memory 1919 MB
Dedicated graphics memory 512 MB
Dedicated system memory 0 MB
Shared system memory 1407 MB
Display adapter driver version 8.961.0.0
Primary monitor resolution 1920x1080
DirectX version DirectX 10

Windows Experience Index:

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+: 4.9
Memory (RAM): 4.00 GB: 5.3
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5450: 3.7
Gaming graphics: 1919 MB Total available graphics memory: 5.8
Primary hard disk: 76GB Free (233GB Total): 5.5
Base score: 3.7

I've inherited this PC, and feel it's a bit slow, so can anyone out there advise me what the best value-for-money upgrades are?
I'm a student, so can not afford the high end stuff.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

A new machine entirely. The parts are fairly old and weren't anything special back then. Its on a dead platform so upgrade path is pretty much non-existent.

Most I would advise upgrading this system would changing the GPU to a HD7750.
Sapphire HD7750. $100 ($10 rebate)
