Nvidia control panel won't set default graphics processor

I have an Nvidia GeForce GT 550M, and for some games, when I try to set the default graphics processor, it lets me select the exe, set it to high performance, and apply, but when I open the game it doesn't use the high performance card. When I right click on the exe and go to "run with graphics processor, it shows me that it is using the low performance card by default. If I click on high performance from there, it works, but I have to do this every time, and I can't utilize the specific settings(such as Anti Aliasing) from the control panel. I have noticed that for the games that it doesn't work on, in the list where it shows the path, it stops at the folder level, while the ones that it does work it just shows the exe. I can't find any file where I can manually change these paths to include the exe, so I'm at a loss. Any suggestions? Also, is there a way I can include pictures in a post? I feel like that would help explain.
