I have 3 unused Nokia 5160i's but they are kinda heavy. Been looking on ebay
for tri-mode TDMA phones and the Nokia 8260's look good for about $20+shp.
Might go for the Motorola V60 color or V60t color flip phones for about
$50+shp but the antennas usually break off, I hear. Anyone know the diff
between the "t" and non "t"? I assume I need an AT&T branded phone and not a
Cingular unless it is "unlocked"?

BTW, I found you can get airtime cheaper on eBay or from
http://www.cheapphonecards.com and without paying the 12% tax you pay on the
AT&T site. http://www.cheapphonecards.com has $100 cards but they don't say
if the minutes last for a yr. I assume they do. That would bring the per/min
cost down to about 12 cents with coupon.

Anyway, I kinda like the old Nokias. And Free2Go and TDMA may be yanked
soon. But I need something which will work in rural areas and GSM is not
here yet. And 12 cents/m beats Virgin's 25 cents/m too.

... personally I like tracfones especially their Moto V60's and Nokia 2285
which in my area use the Verizon CDMA network.

The v60 is a good phone. The 't' stands for TDMA and was replaced by the
improved 'i' version a year later. Then the color versions were
released. I carried one for over a year and no antenna problems.

I have used several models of TDMA phnes w/F2G and I seem to be happiest
w/the one that was the best deal. I got a Nokia 6160 free at work when we
dumped AT&T, but when I wanted to use it more in the office, I got a v60(t)i
for about $25 on eBay and it has been perfect. I have 3 v60i's, and have
had no antenna problems. The people who do put them in their pants pocket
regularly. I do sometimes, and still no problem.

The only other TDMA phone I like is the Allure. The 5100 and 3300-series
Nokia phones are too unwieldy.

I have the 6360, and I am very happy. The antenna adapter is secure
(unlike the Moto V120T that falls out). The reception is good.
Battery life is 2 weeks of standby. Plus I can send names and numbers
from Outlook or my Palm using IR to the phone. To bad you can't send
SMS from IR.

I especially like its programability to deal with roaming. I think
some phones won't take "p" for a number. I have set up two calling
cards:

For carriers requiring the PIN
Access # + Card No. + Phone #
000
[Your Cell Phone#][YourPin#]

For carriers not requiring the PIN:
Access # + Card No. + Phone #
000
p

For Voicemail when roaming:
000W[Your Cell Phone#][YourPin#]W#[Your VMail Pin]
or
000W[Your Cell Phone#]W#[Your VMail Pin]

Unless you have it setup with a USB connection, you don't need the software.
