I recently bought a Gigabyte GeForce GT 520 from newegg, as it was really cheap and a low profile, both of what I need. I have a Lenovo ThinkCentre M57E Computer that has just been a pain to deal with. The Specs are Intel2Duo @ 2.66 GHz each, 2 GB RAM, 140 GB HDD and a 280W psu, you can also click this link to see the specs for the computer here: http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/438178/Lenovo-Thi...
(No, I did not buy this heap of junk for the price there, they just have the specs easily located on here)
I JUST replaced the psu with a 500W one, which is over kill to run this graphics card, because this is what we thought was the problem. I had spoken to Nvidia Tech Support about having to remove the heat sink, they said this should be fine, and it should work fine. I removed the heat sink, as the ThinkCentre is a small form factor computer, and has very limited space, and plugged in the card. I hooked it up to my VGA cables, and it started booting up! After about 10-15 seconds, I would lose connection, but my computer would still be booting up, just no visuals. I decided to put a fan, yes I know this is sort of ghetto, lol, next to it on high, to cool it off. This got it running again for about 30sec- 1min, then black screened again!
Was removing the heat sink a big mistake?
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Any and all help is great, I've been pulling my hair out for days trying to get this computer to work!
(Side Note: I am only 17, still looking for a job, and have no source of income, so cheap/home remedies would be greatly appreciated)
