What exactly is raid? IF i have 2 40 gig hard drives at 7200 rpm and set them up on a raid system would i have a 40gig hard drive at 14400 rpm?

It actually just doubles the space and performance. So if you had two 40GB hard drives in a RAID 0 cofig you would have 80GB that would in turn get better performance depending on stripe size. If you had the same drives in a RAID 1 config then you would have 40GB with less performance but added security.

Not exactly as doubling the RPM. They say <A HREF="http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=18165#18165" target="_new"> it works on the theory... </A>

I think there're more factors involved. For example, the optimal stripe size, software vs. hardware...
