Some time ago I asked for suggestions for subject ideas on an overcast day.
I promised to compile the results and post them but until now I'd forgotten.
Just to expand on this; it appears that an overcast day is interpreted
differently in various countries. I mean 100% cloud cover so that the sky
looks like a giant sheet of aluminium!! Funnily enough I'm in the UK where
the weather is the Nation's favourite topic...
So here is the list so far:
Portraits
Macro
Shiny things (indeed this was handy when I had to photograph a damaged car!)
High contrast subjects
Suits the smaller dynamic range of digital anyway
And, if it looks good on a dull day, it'll look ace on a sunny day!

Of course, overcast is best when you don't have to include the sky
itself in the shot; the sky on an overcast day is often much brighter,
relative to ground, than it is on a blue-sky day.

Don't forget trees and vegetation. I get my best tripod shots inside woods
and forests when it's overcast-- indeed, there are just some shots you
*can't* get inside the edge of a wood when it's sunny!
