Hello all,

Anyone have issues connecting a DIR-645 router to a Westel 7500 router? I can connect a WRT54G router to the Westel; using 2 different SSIDs and 2 different channels and all is well, but I'm ready to just throw out this POS DIR-645. Not sure why/who gave it all these 'rave reviews'! Documentation is horrible and D-LInk is no help. Anybody want new router? Really disappointed and frustrated. Can anyone on this forum provide a step by step on this one?

make sure the the Westel and the Dlink have different IP schemes

see if it works when you change the LAN IP of the Dlink to 192.168.5.1

Hi emerald:

I changed the Network settings on the D-645 router to:
192.168.5.1
255.255.255.0

The Westel 7500 settings are:
192.168.1.1
255.255.255.0

The Westel is giving the D-Link an address of 192.168.1.24

I can ping 192.168.5.1 (D-Link router)
I can ping 192.168.1.1 (Westell router)

But, I cannot connect to the Internet.

I have tried enabling and disabling the DHCP server on the D-Link....no joy
I have tried a number of Default Gateway and DNS addresses on the D-Link...no joy

There are settings on this D-Link that I've never heard of and my old Linksys doesn't have. On the one
hand I should probably pull a book and read up on them, but that is a huge undertaking looking at the
number of items I would have to research.

I think D-Link has really missed the mark on this router. Frustrating!! Thanks for your help ;? )

from behind the Dlink can you PING 206.13.29.12?

from behind the Dlink can you PING www.yahoo.com?

Computers on the D-Link router should have a default gateway of 192.168.5.1
The D-link router should show a gateway of 192.168.1.1
The westall gateway should be your outside internet connection.
Do systems off the westall get to the internet?

Something to mention why two ssids?And if you wanna do this why two routers?You can handle multiple ssids with one router I have done it with DD-WRT,the only thing you need to check is the dd-wrt supported hardware.

Hi all:

My apologies for the late post. The bottom line is that D-Link needed to to a firmware update and a reset after that on the D-645 router. Took them 2 hours to figure out that the firmware was the issue, but they did fix it!

I want multiple routers to 'isolate' zones on the network. I currently have 3 routers running: Westell 7500 (b/g); D-Link DIR-645 (n) and an old Linksys WRT54G (b/g). This allows me to keep people on the D-Link router from sharing files/printers. It's probably not the correct way of doing this, but it works. The biggest issue I have with the D-Link router is that it will not transmit on the 5MHz band and is not a dual band router. It doesn't play nice if you have 802.11g running on the same router as 801.11n.
