Finding an antivirus

Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

In my opinion, which can change in a few months, the best bet is Microsoft's own - Microsoft Security Essentials. Download it free from their website but be careful to choose the right one for either your 32 bit or 64 bit system.

After you install and update it, click on Settings and change the scanning defaults to a time when the computer will be switched on but not in use and also change the percentage of resources the scan can have to 20% so you can still work during a scan.

As Microsoft is always first to be threatened, they tend to have earlier warnings than the others so now they've finally brought out a decent product, it is quite effective.
