Hi!
I need your help with a compatibility check for my first computer. I have gone through everything and tried to make sure myself that everything I am getting is compatible before I actually buy them all. I don't have a specified budget, but I don't want it to go past £400 (I'm in the UK). It will mainly be used for playing games like Minecraft and running Photoshop and Premiere. Here is the list:

CPU:
Intel Core i5 3460 IvyBridge - http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/54861/Intel-CPU-Core-i5-3470-Ivy-Bridge-LGA1155-Retail

GPU:
Palit Geforce GT 610 2048MB PCI-E HDMI DVI-I Retail - http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/54411/Palit-Geforce-GT-610-2048MB-PCI-E-HDMI-DVI-I

Mobo (I have already got this, so I'm not changing it):
Gigabyte motherboard H61M-DS2 LGA1155 DDR3 mATX - http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/54821

Case: CiT Vantage Black Midi Mesh Gaming Case Black Interior 4 Fans (3 Blue LED) Card Reader No PSU - http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/55555/CiT-Vantage-Black-Midi-Mesh-Gaming-Case-Black

PSU:
Coolermaster PSU 500W Elite Power with 12cm fan OEM - http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/52373/Coolermaster-PSU-500W-Elite-Power-with-12cm-fan

Optical Drive:

Thanks! :sol:

hello... your video card is way underpowered...please look for a used GTX 460 on EBAY and see if you afford that... look at the PASSMARK website for ratings on Video Card models... the 60's models and above of the Nividia model #'s are the minimum I recomend to anyone building a computer... your passmark rating is 346... your CPU is rated in the 6000+... you can see the huge imbalance of graphic performance vs CPU... a GTX460 will give a rating of 2668.

hello... to determine the rating of any computer componet... search the name and type "Passmark" after it search agian and go to their web site listed... the passmark for 6570 is 754... your moving in the right direction...

my experience is a graphic card performance is very important in a build... and you might need to drop your CPU choice down and get 2000+ rated GPU in your build... after all everything you look at and respond to is on your video screen... your processor is a overkill to your GPU choices... an I3 at 3.3 ghz has a 4000+ rating for $100 us

Sidestepping the GPU topic, you may or may not need a loaner CPU for your motherboard - it's got an H61 chipset, which is 1 generation older than your CPU. If it doesn't come with the latest BIOS updates, then it won't work with your processor (hence the need for a loaner - so you can update it yourself).

Additionally, I'd avoid that power supply you picked. CoolerMaster only has a few good models, and Elite Powers aren't one of them. Good budget options include Antec's VP-450 and Earthwatt models, Corsair's latest CX series (although I hear their European customer service is horrible), and pretty much anything from XFX.

Well, I'm not getting a used one, so I'll buy a new one, get a different PSU, get an Intel core i3 3220, and it'll all work out?

H77 motherboard needed for ivy...
If you don't have enough $$ for atleast a HD 7770/HD 7850 GPU then don't bother going the i5 route as you'll buying a lambo to drive on a gravel road...might as well buy a horse instead :p

Go for a good i3 (3220 if you can)
with the budget friendly HD 7770
and an H77 motherboard

Go for a less expensive case to save a bit.

But i've already told you, Ive already got my motherboard. Is there any way I can update it?

hello... last poster didn't read the specs on your motherboard... your motherbooard is ivy bridge ready... with F4 bios... so no future upgrade worries for a i5 or i7 upgrade. http://www.gigabyte.us/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=3970 . I like your motherboard choice and brand. The price is Right...

I'm sorry but i'm used to buying used video cards that are 2 generations old on Ebay for performance vs cost... i have 2 Gtx 460 1 Gig bought used... still running 1-2 years after purchase.

Stick with the i5..but i suggest you try and return the motherboard because it will really limit your options to upgrade..here is a build for your budget..a 6670 will be plenty for casual gaming..or if you want to go the nvidia way get a gt 640..

PS. I have a revision 2.0 Motherboard, the list you put was for rev. 1 and did not say that the i3 3220 was compatible. Just a heads up on that.

hello... the difference is HD graphics 2000 and 2500 on chip... get the i3 2120 then... but im sure it will work... their list needs updated?... i just built machine with that board and i3 2120... last month for someone... you don't need to worry about the on chip graphics... cause you are using a exterior graphics card... I never suggested getting a i3 3220 if you look at earlier posts.

I repeat my suggstions... i3 2120 3.3ghz or i3 2130 3.4ghz or i3 2100 3.1ghz

Did you locate a place where it is cheaper getting the 3220 vs the 2120? or did someone jumping into our posts get ya Confused agian? ; )
