Hi, looking for a card to go with my projector (Mitsubishi XD300) that has max res of 1024 x 768.

System i5 3570k, Z77x D3H, 8GB 1600, Seasonic 520 PS.

Running X-Plane and MS Flight sim on integrated CPU graphics right now. Can spend in the low 200.00 range, thinking GTX660.

Two questions:

1. Will a discrete card free up anything as far as CPU is concerned, runs 100% on 1 core but other 3 cores do little or nothing.

2. Is this more card than projector can use, ie will a GTX650 give the same results based on the resolution limit.

Unfortunately, a new projector is not an option.

Thank you.

Driving any display at 1024x768 puts little load on any modern GPU, regardless of the graphics settings.

What are you using now (video card)?

Are you using MS FSX or Flight? FSX required a patch to take advantage of multiple CPU cores (SP1). Also, what version of X-Plane are you flying?

Dont forget your projector can do higher res that 1024x768 this is the native res but you can set it higher and it will look better and give you wider field of view for games. I have messed with this allot. But i just have a 9800GTX+ on mine without issue I would get the highest card you can afford as someday down the line you might upgrade that projector to 1080 and you will still be good to go with the 660 or something in that range...

Thent

MS Flight 2004 can only use one CPU core. Looks like X-Plane 9 has the same limitation (Version 10 can use multiple cores).

The previous HD7770 recommendation is a good choice, the GTX660 would be overkill (to say the least) for the resolution being used.
