Sapphire 7870 or 7950 OC'ed

Hello, after spending many hours reading different reviews about the 7870 and the 7950 cards i have to question the community...

My Sapphire 5770 vapor-x is getting "old" with more than 2 years and i want to achieve a greater visual experience in simulators like FSX and DCS
Looking forward for a possibly 3 monitor solution
the new video card should last me at least 3 years if the simulators will update

I don't know if buy the CHEAPER Sapphire HD 7870 Ghz OC edition 2GB for 223€
Or spending more for a Sapphire HD 7950 Vapor-X 3Gb for 284€, it's 10€ more than the non-vapor card and the vapor-x comes with the full retail box that should contain even the hdmi cable.

Specs of my pc
CM Silent pro 700w (should be certified 80+)
6GB of Corsair Dominator 1600
i7 920
Asus P6T SE i guess but PCIe 2.0 x16
an HAF case

I have a 300€ budget
for 35€ more i can have 3 more years of warranty but that exceeds my budget on the 7950
I don't want to set up Cross fire or Sli or even own a multi-gpu card.

I don't want to trow an extreme OC on my hardware.
the best I will do is push the Turbo button on the 7950 or keep the 5870 in his 1050hz factory oc

I don't Nvidia cards because they cost relatively more and run at a considerably higher temp, so the transistors junction will degrade faster, they suck more juice etc..

Probably if I could sell the card in 2 years for 50-100€ will be a great thing. My current 7770 should be sold at 50€ if i'm lucky.

What's your opinion?
Best regards, Giulio

  1. EDIT

    this is one card

    this is the other one

with the 79xx I will receive FarCry 3, Hitman absolution and Sleeping Dogs
with the 78xx I will receive just FarCry 3

I prefer buying from this shop because it ships to a small shop near me and i can pay there
  2. Wow, is it just this shop or are all Italian computer stores $200 overpriced? Usually I see the raw price about the same in dollars, pounds, or euro regardless of exchange rate.

Back on topic, i'd go with the 7950. It's in your price range and good upgrade over the 78xx (50 and 70 basically the same with a tiny oc)

P.S. Just finished Sleeping Dogs, very nice graphics (extra PC textures, get the updates) if you like or can tolerate the GTA game style.
