Approximate Purchase Date: This week

Budget Range: Around $1000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming (mostly Wow)

Parts Not Required: GPU (XFX Radeon HD 6950), Case (NZXT Phantom 410), CPU cooler

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Microcenter/Newegg

Country: Overland Park, Kansas, USA

Parts Preferences: No preference

Overclocking: Not at this point

SLI or Crossfire: Crossfire possibly (see below)

Monitor Resolution: Preferably 1920x1080 or 1920x1200, but open to suggestions

Additional Comments: I'm setting this build up for a friend. He already has a few parts that he bought a while back; he's just trying to finish this thing up now. I have one main question: in order to CF, do the cards need to be same brand? I know they need to be the same type, ex: 6950. He has a pretty good sized budget to work with given the card that he already has, but the XFX 6950 is out of stock, while some other 6950s are available. Based on this contingency, I've posted two build below:

CF build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/uVkK

One GPU build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/uVoB

I picked the ASRock Extreme 4 because there is a Microcenter in Overland Park that has a $50 discount when you buy it with the Intel i5-3570; in-store pickup will not be a problem. If he is not going to be able to CF, I figured a nicer monitor would be a good way to spend the money, the Dell U2412M (I own it myself and I love it), along with an SSD. Any help on this build would be much appreciated. Thanks guys!

they need to be the same gpu model but not the same brand. You could consider selling the 6950 and picking up a 7950.
