Ha! You beat me to it! I put the New Scientist down next to my computer
earlier, intending to inform the NG about this camera!
I estimate it's going to be at least two weeks, possibly as much as 11
years, before we get a consumer version.
We can only be thankful that they didn't go for foveon (I refuse to give
that technology a capital letter).

I'd be interested in seeing the telescope they're going
to mate it to. My guess is this thing is this big
in order to map large areas at one time. Some Schmidt cameras
can illuminate 27" wide film discs so doing this with the
1.5 gig sensor won't be difficult.

About 6-7 years, I would guess. 1TB drives should be commonly
available next year.
