I'm building a new computer and have a full copy of 98. Problem is I want to install XP instead. Do I have to install all of 98 then upgrade or can I just have XP do a search of, say, my cdrom drive????

You can do a fresh install from the XP CD. Just before it copies system files it will ask for verification of a qualifying prior version. Just put the 98 CD in the drive and show the correct path and you will be ok.
