I want my computer to be able play high resolution video games a lot and it need to support game development software.

I will be getting an Intel i7-3770K CPU and an ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 ATX Intel motherboard.

I've been told a Nvidia GPU is best for playing and developing games, but which kind? I don't know anything about GPU's. What's the best Nvidia to go with my CPU and MB?

I started with $1000. The CPU costs $329.99, the MB costs $127.98, my monitor costs $116.33, and my cooler costs $29.94. Now I'm down to $395.76. In addition to the GPU, I still have to buy a PSU and a drive.
(I know I will probably go over $1000), but try to recommend GPU's under $400.

He wants a NVIDIA GPU. He's not trying to Max out go all out on everything. he's only doing game design. either brand is fine.. but if he wants a NVIDIA GPU. don't tell him to switch because of what you think is best. and PS the new NVIDIA drivers put the 680 ahead again...

You have been told wrong. The strongest GPU out now is the 7970 GHz made by AMD. It is a good 5-10% stronger than Nvidia's 680 before overclocking, and after it is about 15-20% stronger than that same nvidia card overclocked to its highest as well. If you want to get the strongest double PCB, again it is AMD's 7990 (Though it will need a 750w PSU).

Also don't get an i7 if it isn't too late. The i5-3570k is the best gaming cpu out.
