Hi, sorry if there is a thread that I missed with this info already, I did look but couldn't quite get the answers I'm looking for. I'm an ambitious college student pursuing a degree in engineering while picking up some manufacturing and IT skill sets along the way. I'm mostly wanting to learn solidworks at the moment.
Purchase date: within 1-2 weeks
Intended use: Solidworks, various other cad programs, general workstation for school and product development.
Are you buying a monitor: Yes, I will be buying two or three at a later date.
Parts to upgrade: Starting from scratch
Do you need to buy an OS: Yes
Preferred website: Newegg
Parts Preferences: Intel for CPU, other than that no. What ever will work best.
Overclocking: At a later date
SLI or Crossfire: No, unless there is a justifiable performance increase.
Your Monitor Resolution: at least 1920 x1080 (x2-3 at a later date)
Additional Comments: I'd like bluetooth and wifi to experiment with.
Why are you building/upgrading: Because I have a lot of idea's for products and no way to design them. I want to be able to make them come to life. I'm learning what I can about 3D printing so that I can make prototypes as I advance. Programing and networking so that I can interface it with today's technology.
I'm shooting for a 2-3 year long life cycle so I need room to grow into. By then it will probably be worthwhile to start over rather than upgrade so I don't expect to reuse components for future builds(though they may be reassigned). I am responsible for my own power bill so I guess that is of concern. I have a dedicated media PC for mass storage.
