Hi,

I have AMD FirePro 2460 video card with 4 mini dp outputs & it came with 4 mini display port to DVI pigtail converters.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814195099

I have been using Four Dell U2412M High resolution monitors ( 1920x1200 )with it.

Now one of the mini DP to DVI converter doesn't works so I have been searching for it & came across similar converters but they all say it is for Apple Cinema Display, to a Mac Pro (2009), Mac mini (2009), iMac (2009), MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air etc.

It looks almost identical to mine except the color, which is white & mine is Black.

I am also not sure if mine is an active conveter or not. Apple's isn't.

Here is what Apple's looks like :

Here is what mine looks like except I am not sure i mine is active.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VISIONTEK-900341-Active-Mini-DISPLAYPORT-to-Single-Link-DVI-Adapter-/170896666538?pt=US_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item27ca3c2faa

So would Apple's adapter work in my Video Card ?

Thanks

I would think it would but the description did not say if it was an active adapter or not and it says "Mini Displayport Male to DVI-I M/F thunderbolt Cable Adapter for Apple Macbook" so I am not sure if there is a difference since it says thunderbolt in the description. However Newegg has about 12 of them for sale.

This HIS adapter is $19.99 and is active. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814999033

One newegg you posted looks like a male DVI.

I need female DVI.

Previous versions did not mention Thunderbolt.

Also mono price & other caable sites have much cheaper about 1/4 the price so taking a risk with wouldn't hurt much.

Also the question : Is thunderbolt port & Mini DP ports are same two in one now ?

I do not know that is what I was wondering. I have never used or had thunderbolt so I am not sure. As for the adapter it is the same pinout as the one you linked to Mini DisplayPort (M) to DVI (F). It is the same adapter I am using on my HD 6950's and HD 7950's in two of my rigs witch is why I posted a link to it because I know that they are active adapters so they work correctly. However the VISIONTEK one you linked to is also a active adapter so you should have no problems.

I just do not know about the Apple one. Given Apple's need to be proprietary I would question whether it would work on anything but Apple.

Anyway like I said the one I linked to I know works that is all I can say about it.

I really appreciate your feedback.

I went through AMDs specs & other info & it just says mini DP to DVI adapter. It doesn't say active or passive anywhere on its site which is strange.

But there was a thread here that I just went thru & someone had the same question & he had the same logic as I & that is " How can they afford to give you 4 Active adapters which would cost over $100.00 when the card itself is $220.00 with 4 adapters.

Also I am thinking that a DVI is a DVI industry standard so wthether it is for Apple or another vendor shouldn't make any difference but I just might be blind sighted as I am desperate to get one cheap right now & is available readily on ebay.

But it is strange that an adapter will die in less than 6 months on such a High end card used mostly by financial traders & institutions.
