Gaming at 7680x1440

I currently own a single 27" 2560x1440 monitor. If I were to, say, buy two more and wanted to play games at high settings on them (at a resolution of 7680x1440), how much GPU horsepower would that require? I know for sure my two 6950's wouldn't be adequate.
I'm just trying to gauge exactly how much this would cost me.

Thanks for the help!

EDIT: Also, can I play basically any game on three monitors? Or does the functionality only exist in certain games?

You would want 7970/680 in tri-fire or tri-sli for gaming in such config.

I would bet two 7970s/gtx670/680s could handle it. Three for sure though.

Yikes. Really? I guess I sort of expected that.
