Computer goes black and sound loops when gpu under load

I have a
asus 2 GB radeon hd 6900 series
asus p6x58d-e motherboard
inel core i 7 3.07
18 gb of ram
in a cm storm stryker case

I have been having this problem for a good couple of months, some days are better than others.

I have read information on forums to try and resolve this problem and most people claim their gpu's are running to hot
I tried a stress test on MSI Kombustor 2.4 and my max temp before it cut out was 49. I did this 5 times, each time it would only run for about 5 mins before the monitor losses connection and the sound loops
I then have to restart the computer to do anything

please help me

Hi, rambo1231, just thought I'd chip in to say I have the same problem -- that my PC crashes with sound looping when the GPU is under heavy load. I assumed the problem is due to over-heating but I've just had a crash and straight away touched the heat sink on my GPU and it really wasn't that hot. Maybe we need to up the voltage?..

some one did say that to me at work today and its properly a good idea.
Im just trying not to spend more money, if i don't have to
