Pathetic really, considering the Wii U GPU is confirmed to be some variant of the RV7xx, the closest of those that fits is the RV740 which is roughly the same size die... The RV740 was a Radeon 4770. However, the GPU die has eDRAM taking up some space on it, which means that the GPU probably is not even equivalant to a HD4770

shocked?

Edit: for those that are not familiar with the performance of the HD4770, it is slightly slower than the 8800 GTX that was released in 2006

^So true. They don't care at all.

1. Games on console is much better optimized.
2. wii U is not meant to give best graphics for games.
3. wii U is really for casual games where everyone can play and enjoy in social gathering, as oppose to online/solitude gaming experience. The social and kinesthetic element is much more important.

As long as the game runs smoothly and is fun to play on wii U, I don't see why it needs top of the class graphic. Seriously, games without eye candy can be very good as well.

Look at what the 360/ps3 has done for the past decade. Those have underpowered hardware, but the devs still make it work. People buying consoles don't care about the hardware. All they want is whatever box plays the exclusives they want for a decent price.

Still streets ahead of what is in the 360 and PS3, will have to wait to confirm what is in their replacements before passing judgement.

all i can see is games with 720p(or lower) 25-30fps low-medium settings etc, a 8800GTX or equivalent can do better than that

If I remember correctly, the xbox360's GPU is ancient, but after the optimizations, it runs like an 8800GT. You just need to compare the early XBOX 360 games to the latest 360 games to see that.

TBH, who cares? I mean, I still find my PS1 great for playing games on.

PC hardware is ahead of software and console hardware is behind. Yeah, the Wii U gpu is low end, although it's similar in size, I seriously doubt it's a 4770. I wouldn't buy one if it had a 7970/680 in it anyway. I don't get Nintendo, they dropped having cutting edge hardware for a new, cutting edge interface with the Wii, but what's their excuse this time?

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHWPGmf_A_0 as you can see a ATI RADEON X1950 PRO still run games like crysis 2 with the same graphics and performance like consoles. the 8800GT will do higher rez, better graphics settings and performance than the console version.

as i said the HD4770 is a high estimate.

just to point out that Black Ops 2 on Wii U run at 880x720 LOLOLOLOLOLOL that is 3.3 times smaller than the standard 1080p and 6.5 times smaller than 2560x1600 the resolution I play games on.

at this point i suspect that the Wii U use HD4450.
