At least a dual core, preferably a quad.
4 gigs ram
Lot of different ways to go with video cards. Depends on whose you prefer (I assume since you're in the AMD section you prefer Radeons but you know what they say about assumptions). A 6870 runs about $170 which is middle of the road card and price, but everyone's tolerance level is different. Depends on what you're willing to spend.

CPUS : Below 100$ : a intel pentium g850, between 100-130 $ : i3-3220, above that i5-3450/70.

Video cards : For resolutions bellow 1080p : 7750- 7770 amd/ 650 gtx ti
For 1080p : from 7850 1GB to 670 gtx 2GB

And also important check for a know brand for psu (antec, corsair, xfx, seasonic,etc.)

I am in the 900-1000 dollar range for the whole thing.

Oh you have a good bit of wiggle room then.

CPU - Intel Ivy Bridge i5 (~$200)
GPU - AMD Radeon HD 7850 maybe (~$200)
RAM - 4 to 8 gigs DDR3 (~$70)
PSU - 500w-600w (~$70)
HD - 90gig-128gig SSD (~$100) and/or 1-2 TB HD (~$100)
Toss in the rest and see where you land. Can adjust from there.

From those suggestions you're certainly going to meet the "something reasonable" criteria. It's not through the roof but you'll have some strong components.
