You can get an i5-3470 in microcenter for 149.99$, it's worth, you can get cheaper mobos there too, also you need a gpu for that system(fx-6300 doesn't have any on die gpu).
For e.g. : an i5-3570k+msi z77a-g41 for 210$, it has the intel 4000 graphics and a powerful quadcore.

TY very much for responding. I looked at that route, but some a few people on here steered me away from the integrated graphics. I looked at both intel, hd 4000, and the AMD A10 w/ 7660D. My goal is to have something that will last about 2 to 3 years, then with a video card update, can last 1 to 2 more.

Plus i am slightly over budget already

Yes, i was thinking without gpu, since i didn't see any on the previous post, it's hard to squeeze any better than you did, especially when it's all in microcenter, the only thing is to recommend the i5-3470(only cause it's 149.99 in microcenter, and it's better)+h77 mobo, but it's a bit more expensive.
The fx-6300 will not bottleneck the card anyway.

Do you think the monitor is enough? Its a refurbished deal, but still seems like a good deal.

micro center has a deal on the i3 3225 (40 off mobo's), but the mobo i wanted is out of stock in my local store, that is why I went the fx6300 route. If this goes well (my last build was 9 years ago) I was thinking of building myself one with the i5 3570k.

I don't know if you can answer this, but if I droped down to a fx 4100 for 90 bucks, I could get a get a free mobo. With all else the same, would performance change much?

the fx6300 will overclock up to almost an i5-2500k in performance so it's a good enough chip. frankly it's a little space heater too. If you can i'd get her into a 7850 just because the performance jump is too good to pass up. it's a huge leap from the 7770 to the 7850.

You probably could save some money killing the optical drive... really we don't need them anymore. just use flashdrives you should be good.
