2nd hand 6850 vs Brand New 650 Ti?

I have been searching for the best video card with in my budget for almost a week now..

I have narrowed down my choices (thanks to those who help me here in tomshradware) to the the GTX 650 Ti OC'ed which costs around 175$ here in our country. But just yesterday, a friend of mine offered me his HD 6850 (which he has only used for less than a year) for 130$. Now confused more than ever.

What do you think guys? Should I go for a brand new GTX 650 Ti OC'ed or should I go for the cheaper 6850 considering it is an older card compared to the 650 Ti.

Thanks to those that would help or share their opinion :)

  1. Get the GTX 650 ti. It's better and also try to avoid 2nd hand video cards if they don't have warranties. See benchmarks below

  2. 650Ti is way better than HD 6850.

    Consumes less power.
    New gen card
Will last longer than HD 6850
    Gives more fps on games
    Can OC easily

Where u buying from so we can give some suggestion. And ur max budget ?
  3. Get the new 650 ti. It is better in all games pretty much, and lower power consumption.

Pretty much what the guy said up there ^^
  4. A 6850 is a good card overall still, but that's not a very good price for that card used, new would be a different story though. Everything can become appealing as long as the price is right, and that 6850 is pretty cold compared to what the 650Ti offers over it - and being new.

The 650 Ti isn't really that much faster/better but at the price he is selling the 6850 you would want to get the 650 Ti.

Your friend's price of $130 is high for a used 6850 though. You can buy new ones around that price. If it was say $100 for it then it would be competitive price difference. Even still though you're probably better off just getting a new 650 Ti for the warranty and such.
  6. I was thinking of getting the cheaper 6850 + additional 4gb of Ram (so I could have 8gb since i only have 4gb now) or the 650 Ti.

How about the 6870 for 160$ would that be better than the 650 Ti at 175$? Or am i better off paying the extra 15$ and go for the 650 Ti instead?
  7. 650 Ti and 6870 are really close to each other.

But i would get the 650 ti as it is a new gen card. 130 for 6850 and 160 for 6870 are a bit high. U can oc the 650TI more than the Hd 6870 so 650 ti wins.

And if u can get the 6850 for 80$ would be a great deal.

I got mine (Gtx 560 Ti DS SC ) for 130$ Runs great and kill all the games i throw at :)

So IMO get the 650 ti

At this price point, now you're right at the 7850 1 GB card level (although the 2 GB card can be found around this on a really good sale), which can serve quite well if you're not running high resolution/multiple monitors or a lot of filtering. Not to mention, now you bring back to the table the same arguments for getting the 650TI over the 6850 (besides being high-priced for used): newer tech, lower power consumption, and overclocks higher. Not to mention, it is faster than the 650TI for about the same price.......

If you have a budget, it's usually best to stick to it. Computer parts will have you saying, "If I only spend $10 more here, and $15 there", you get the point :)
Is there an intended purpose here, or is it to just play the latest and greatest games with as much eye candy your budget allows?

I am from the Philippines, and the 7850 here costs at least 200$

By the way, I have no particular reason for upgrading other than playing. I don't OC as well, i just want a new video card that will allow me to play games in Ultra High settings. P.S. I only use 1366x728 resolution :P

I actually had a budget and quite frankly I am now too far from my original budget.

"If I only spend $10 more here, and $15 there" - you nailed it here! :D

if u wanna save money, u can get the 6850,
but your friend is totally ripping u OFF!!!
u can get a new one in that price, u go tell him that u ain't buyin the 6850
    for 130$,
he knows no one else in whole world is going to give $130 for that card today.
so he came to u so that he can FOOL u and save up for HIS new gpu.
tell him that u wont give one dollar above $100 and he will still sell it to you.
    OR......
if u dont wanna save money, go with an hd 7850, at that resolution it will probably last till your next build!!!
  12. Well, here in our country, that price is fairly cheap compared to a brand new 6850. Believe me, prices here skyrocket :P

Well, I am planning on getting a 7850 if budget permits me, but if not i think i'll just go for the 650 Ti
  13. Great. Budget is the only thing that can stop u from getting 7850 :)

Is that the price of the 2GB or the 1GB card?
  15. ^ it's the price of the 2gb
  16. hey, if u wanna play on 720p the 6850 is nice,
and u say it's not overpriced in your country at 130$,
and since u r on a budget, get that one, its not that bad.
try to convince your friend to give it to u a little bit cheaper ;)
  17. I only play at 1366x728. So would the 7850 be overkill? :P
  18. yup, 7850 can easily handle 1080p which is double than 720p.
if price is a factor go with 6850 if not than 650 ti
  19. Thanks for all your help guys. If my budget permits, I will definitely go 7850, but if not, i think i'll just settle with 650 Ti. Considering i don't really play at 1080p
