How good of a card do i need?

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: A Week Maybe? BUDGET RANGE: $175.00 Max After Rebates

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Youtube, Mediocre Video Editing. Non-Intense Gaming. I play The Sims 2(not 3), Minecraft, Sim City(When its released). No desire to play FPS games. GTA occasionally. Dolphin Emulation is a must.

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY: Building a new system, will have either a CX500 or CX600. I use an HD2400 Pro...

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS: i5 3470, 8GB Ram, ASRock Pro4-M Mobo

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: I like Newegg...USA

PARTS PREFERENCES: None Really. NVidias drivers are easier to work with..

OVERCLOCKING: Highly Doubt It. SLI OR CROSSFIRE: I dont plan on it.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: I have a 1920x1080 (HDMI) and a 1440x900 (DVI). Ive always preferred to play games on the small monitor, but ive never had a system that could run the big monitor.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:...Not obnoxiously loud.

I have right now a 7850 picked out, with 2GB Vram...on Rebate its $150. But i know that 1GB is sufficient for most high end games, assuming your not running multiple monitors. And i don't play any high end games...and i don't plan on it. It seems to me like that card would be completely overkill. Should i go for a 7770 instead? That way i dont have to mess with a rebate, and i have a little extra money...which would be nice.

Thanks.

So am i correct in that it goes 7770, 650ti, 7850, worst to best? And whichever one i can afford is kinda what i should go with?

I have been reading that the PSU requirement on these is majorly exaggerated. Is that correct, and could i get by with a 430 Watt Corsair PSU? Cause i can get one for dirt cheap.

Get that, it's a quality PSU. Put the extra money in a 7850.

Best solution

Yes the 430w corsair will do for any of those cards.

Either go with galaxy 650 ti or the xfx 7850 1GB.
If you like nvidia better and dont care for perfomance go with 650 ti (has assassins creed 3 for free), if you want more performance for $ go with the 7850 1GB
