I have been considering an upgrade from my aging 6850 to something that wont be the bottleneck on my system. (And can play Dayz higher than 13 FPS) I was looking at the 7850 and the 7870. Is the 7850 really that much better of an upgrade from what I have? If not ill go for the 7870.

I am not sure.I think i would not upgrade till i could afford a7950.But a7850 noway waste of money to upgrade to that bud.If you go for 7870 i recommend the MSI Radeon HD 7870 HAWK is the MSI Lightning's smaller brother. It uses the company's signature Twin Frozr II dual-fan cooler. MSI has also increased the clock speeds of the HD 7870 HAWK to 1100 MHz GPU and 1200 MHz memory.

AMD phenom 2 x4 B50 @3.2 ghz
Asus m5a97 evo motherboard
Corsair builder series 600 watt PSU
Unfortunately my power supply isn't strong enough to power a crossfire configuration. Also, the motherboard's 2nd pcie slot is only x4.

i would say that psu is enough for crossfire. But you probably also want to upgrade the cpu, or overclock it. Im actually planning on ditching both my 6850's for a 7870 myself. Crossfire 6850 was working well until i just recently discovered some bad microstutter in parts of Oblivion. Cant notice it in crysis 2 though which i thought would see it more. I would definitely get the 7870, the 7850 isnt enough of an upgrade. Some of the cheaper 7870's are the same price as more expensive 7850's anyway.
