HOTFIX for Battlefield 2 v1.01 Coming Soon
First off, a HUGE thanks to all of you who emailed me in regards to the
memory leak found in the update we released earlier this week (v1.01).
Your emails found their way to our production team and they’re in the
process of evaluating what needs to be done in order to get this fixed.
In the meantime, and since the 1.01 update is causing memory leakage on
some systems, we recommend that you reinstall the game and NOT the v1.01
update we released earlier this week.

Reinstalling Battlefield 2 will not affect your in-game medals or ranked
server statistics. EA and DICE are committed to getting a fix for v1.01
as soon as we possibly can and will continue to keep you informed
through this web space in the coming days.

NOTE: If you installed and are running the newer server files (Win and
Linux versions) we made available earlier this week, please revert those
as well. We found that those files had the same issues with memory leaks
as did the v1.01 update. You can download the older versions here

The only other time I can remember a cock up this big was Tribes 2, when
Sierra advised people to roll back on at least one occasion. Tribes 2 was
probably the buggiest mainstream game I have ever seen and this was also
multiplayer up to 64 players. I remember Hidden and Dangerous was a mess
too - so much so I simply stopped playing it and didn't ever return.

Operation Flashpoint was fairly bad, but playable.

Any others you can think of?

You may need to request them to add it.

Don't forget Battlecruiser 3000!

Three years in the making, it's main developer had to be removed from the
premises by the police because he objected so strenously to it's release.

The game required two patches just to run.

Needless to say, there was no Battlecruiser 3000 II.

More confirmation that BF2 is really Tribes 3. (We won't consider Tribes
Vengeance, the way we ignore that one Highlander movie for consideration as
a member of the "series".) If not for the lack of jetpacks, BF2 has most of
the elements of Tribes 2. Large outdoor maps with lots of vehicles and the
strategic command element. There's a limited number of deployables (mines,
C4, claymores). Perhaps mods can add some of the other elements, like a
deployable sensor network and deployable remote inventories. But the latter
is mostly served by special character classes (medic, support) so it's not
so needed.

To be fair, it also shares the most obvious failing of Tribes Vengeance -
i.e. the encouragment of base-rape, by placing "legitimate" targets
within the UCB.

I actually really liked the Tribes:V beta, but towards the end, it had
become an absolute mess of idiots just wanting to kit out as a "heavy"
and lob shells in the enemy base. No fun at all, so I quit playing and
didn't bother buying the game until it was in the bargain bin.

The BF2 demo has sometimes been a similar experience - one side
(typically USMC) captures all the flags (usually, in part, due to
unbalanced teams), then proceed to pummel the UCB until everyone has
either switched teams, left or the game ends. Really dull - even if
you're on the "winning" team.

Developers really should be able to anticipate bad behaviour in their
games and take steps to prevent it. For instance - would it have been
hard to place each teams UCB outside the other teams play area? Couldn't
the command post's and artillery *always* have been placed at satellite
bases and not within the UCB area?

higgy.

Are we supposed to all uninstall and reinstall just the game OR
uninstall only if we are having "major" problems?

Mine is sort of a pain in the ass, but if the hotfix will fix the
problems, and I do not need to reinstall, I can wait!

Thanks,
Mike

If you want to play now, and most of the servers seems to have reverted,
you have to uninstall/re-install.

I ahve bought Battlefield 1942, BFV and now BF2. I think all of the
games are great. However, I am slowly getting steamed on how seems that
EA keep releasing games a quarter too soon. It seems as though they
think their shareholders are more important than their customers. I
should have known better, but I feel swindled. Sigh. I recommend
everyone that ask me to wait a couple of months, until the game is finished.

The shareholders are more important than the customers........at least
to the management with stock options and the short term view. And
they're the ones pushing the release date button.

sadly yours,
