i want to buy hd7950. my specs are

Mobo: G41-M7
processor: E5800 3.2 ghz
Psu: 350 watt
Ram: 3 gb

what i'm going to do is to buy hd7950 and a good psu and 2gb ram to replace 1 gb from the board. but there are lots of issues like bottleneck, pci-lane issue.

Budget: rs 26000

if i fail to built a good gaming rig then surely i will go for ps3.

now i want your advice on how to spend money on this wisely. thanks in advance. :)

HD 7950 will be much better than a PS3. It will bottleneck a bit, but in the end it will improve what you have now exponentially. Also, try fitting a CPU cooler inside that budget if you can - you'll want to overclock that processor as high as possible.

There is no issues on PCI-lane side. There is no performance loss whatsoever.

buy a 7850 2gb, the 7950 will be bottlenecked.
You probably have a monitor with a resolution bellow 1080p...the 7850 2gb or 1gb will be the best card.

No, don't do that. HD 7950 will be bottlenecked on some games, on others it will not. It will still be miles ahead of the HD 7850 either way: bottleneck doesn't destroy performance, it only diminishes it a bit.

Also, if he buys HD 7950 now, when he upgrades again in 2 years, he will not have to buy a new graphics card, and will be able to upgrade the CPU/motherboard instead. However, if he buys HD 7850 now, in 2 years it will be outdated.

thanks to both of you for your quick reply. i'm planning to buy it after december 20 th. so i guess i have almost 1 month to discuss on this. thanks to you all..now initially i planned to buy 7850. then i saw the review of 7.x.x.x series cards and i found 7950 is simply awesome. but the point is i will be facing bottleneck in the both cases though :(  until n unless i upgrade my cpu...and that means practically upgrading the whole system and right now i don't have that much of money. i am a student and i saved this money for this purpose only. if i wait for rs 20000 more for cpu and motherboard it will take hell lot of time. so i want to buy it on December only. well, my monitor is:

syncmaster 798mbplus(preety old)
right now i have gt520

and i play in 1024*768 mostly.

Ouch. I change my opinion. Get HD 7870 and a new monitor. Or even GTX 660. Trust me, you don't want to play at 1024x768. HD 7950 will be wasted on that resolution.

@sunius ,oh...what if i play at higher resolution?

i play at 1024*768 because my present gt520 can't handle more than that...so if i want to play smoothly i should play it in 1024*768 for current scenario

Considering everything ive seen here so far, go wih this card, you cant go wrong:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

This has Ghost Thermal Technology for heat dispersal, has a LIFETIME waranty! And is very high quality for $199 (You will have to convert to the currency you are using) But in USD that is very inexpensive. You WILL not be disappointed. The 7950 i have is being bottlenecked by my 1055T six core CPU and though its awsome and i love it, i wouldnt be any less happy with that 7850. Trust me and most of the others here on this! Plus you get FarCry 3 for free from newegg.. which is awsome, but anyways Good Luck Man!

What monitor do you have? If your monitor isn't 1920x1080 resolution one, you should get a new one. Getting a decent graphics card will be a waste with that monitor. As I said, GTX 660 and a decent monitor costs around the same as HD 7950.

@LawL: he cannot get that, he lives in India.

thanks djangoringo for the detailed information. what i found about the price is-
http://www.flipkart.com/sapphire-amd-hd-7870-2gb-gddr5-...
http://www.flipkart.com/sapphire-amd-ati-hd-7870-hdmi-o...
http://www.flipkart.com/asus-amd-hd-7870-2-gb-gddr5-gra...

now i will definitely not going for asus version.and 7950 selling price from the local retailer is-rs 22800. so if i buy 7950 i will end up paying 2000-3000 more for the 5% increase in performance. hmmm...nice argument.. ok lemme know which one to buy from these above mentioned three cards..thank you all for your help..and i'm kinda low in this technical matter...so my decision will be based on you people's suggestion..thanks in advance

Huge difference. Gaming on 1920x1080 at low settings looks 10 times better than gaming on 1024x768 at max settings...

i will play with max settings though that is 1280 x 1024. for now only i should go with my old monitor...bt surely i will buy a good monitor later..may b within 2-3 months...thanks for your help though..so if i get a good monitor then i'm good to get 7950 or 660ti???

I'd get HD 7950 over GTX 660 Ti.

About bottlenecking: it will bottleneck on some games, but it shouldn't affect performance too much. Just make sure to get a CPU cooler and overclock the CPU.

Just buy the HD 7950 now and upgrade the monitor when you have enough money. Or get GTX 660 together with a monitor.

I'd get HD 7950 if you were certain that you were getting a monitor soon anyway (within few months). Otherwise, get GTX 660 + monitor.

Yes you are correct. It's using two of the same graphics cards in one system.

As for the power supply, look for 500 or more watts from Corsair, Antec, Seasonic or XFX. Don't buy other brands - such as Cooler master, because they make really bad quality units.

I gave my 560's a dust off a couple of weeks ago when I moved them into the primary rig and that was the first and only time in a year and a half.
