I have a Dell Dimension XPS-T700r, 256 RAM and two HD. The box came with a Maxtor 10GB (7,200rpm). I put in from my old warhouse (GW2K 486 w/Evergreen 5x86-133 chip) a Western digital 8.6GB drive (5,400rpm). According to Dell, my XPS has an ATA-66 IDE controller. I want to replace the WD with a 20 or 30 gig Maxtor. From I saw at Maxtor's site, the only 7,200's they have are ATA-100. Can I install aa ATA-100 drive into my XPS?

I know enuff to be dangerous.

If you want to take advantage of ATA100, you can add a PCI ATA100 controller to your system. However, the difference between these two standards is quite minimal.
