So this is my first gaming pc build and just wanted to see what everyone on the forum thinks about the following setup... I have a max budget of @1100... wife said 1000 but I figure I can stand 10% more anger on her part :D

Newegg cart:
Case: Rosewill Challenger-U3 - $60
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H - $145
Processor: Intel i5-3570k - $220
Graphics: Gigabyte GV-N670OC 2GB - $400
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) - $45
Power: Corsair HX750 - $130
Cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - $30
Optical - Asus Blu-Ray BC-12B1ST - $60
Thermal: Artic Silver - $10

Total: $1100 (Free shipping was part of the reason I picked all of the items on my list ;)  )

Any suggestions or any glaring needs that I made of missed would be greatly appreciated... thanks.

I am guessing that you have an HDD, monitor, and OS since they aren't on the list or are you not including them in the budget?

Yes I already have 2 1gb hdd's and a 128gb ssd, win 7 64, and plan on hooking this pc up to my 50" panny plasma... plus a 24" monitor for when my wife freaks out...

The 750W PSU is an overkill, you can save money there. Plus the AsRock Extreme 4 is a great board and cheaper than the GIGABYTE. Saved a bit on the RAM as well. You won't be disappointed in the 7950 over the 670 either. If this is primarily for gaming, go with this. If you really want to get closer to your $1000 budget, get the 7970. Also, if you live near a Microcenter, you can get the 3570k for $169.99 and get $40 off a motherboard.

With the 7970 (it overclocks way better than the 670)

You don't need extra thermal compound - you're just wasting money there.
