Mac I'm a die hard Alien / Predator fan, I still remember when the first Alien movie came out, it was definitely different nothing like we'd seen before, and then James Cameron did Aliens and I really liked that also, but from that point, the Alien movies went downhill as far as I was concerned, I think they lost sight of the name of the movie, it wasn't the Episodes of Sigorney Weaver, it was Alien. I also think each movie done by a different director, really screwed the whole Alien thing up, so now we have a completely different director attempting to merge the two plotlines together, Aliens vs Predators its either going to be great, or a pile of crap, it will be interesting to see if this new directors vision is the right stuff, and like you, I hope they don't blow it.

You're right, I think the first Alien movie was so long ago that the special effects were severely limited, but imagine what he could have done, with the special effects of today, people would have had heart attacks, watching that movie.

Alien was so good it didn't need all the special effects. That movie is timeless.

Have to agree with you there, although I liked the second one more...

A 3 and 4 were complete crap, P 2 was also very mediocre. Going by that, my guess would be that the new movie is going to be a big waste of money, or dl time.

Next thing you know, Skynet gets a bug and trasports a terminator right in the middle of an AVP fight, and than Batman flies in to rescue some of the X-men stuck in the middle of it all,
a Fred Astair zombie does a grimy-gooey step dance. With yoda backing him up.
-Now that would a great comedy.

Yeah it could turn out to be a flop, big time, with each creatures abilities, and not being in space so you don't have to worry about acid eating through the hull of a ship, the Alien really doesn't stand a chance against a Predator with the weapons he carries, the cloaking ability, and the visual tracking capabilities he has, the only advantage the Alien would have is stealth and overwhelming numbers, other than that what could the Alien really do, against the Predator in open range combat, it would be a slaughter. Of course you could power up quite a few batteries when it was over!!! :smile:

I agree, theres really only a couple of scenes in the first movie that increased special effects would have made better, but what I actually meant was, did special effects limit trying to parallel with the book, Alien, I don't know if you ever read it, but the movie was a joke compared to the book, but at the time how much money could they actually invest in trying to recreate the scenes, that the book left painted in your mind.

Also during the time period the blood and gore was limited to the Chestburster scene, there was no more blood and gore after that scene, talking about Shock Therapy for the time period though. :smile:

Thats me Aubby!!! I've always loved those movies, and also the games that were generated from the movies, I purposely bought the Atari Jaguar gaming system just to play the Aliens vs Predator game they marketed, You probably never even heard of the Atari Jaguar Game Console, but it was probably the best gaming system ever marketed by Atari.

"diehard" as not a definite definition, {IE; a person stubbornly resistant to new ideas}, which in that case it would have been meant as sarcasm, or relating to any Bruce Willis movies, but just used literally as a term to relate to, (not ready to give up on hopes that two excellently established movies like Alien and Predator, that have been butchered to make money in the past, by subsequently releasing to the public renditions of garbage they expected us to swallow, [excluding Aliens from that statement]), it still being possible for some up and coming director to salvage the crap they've left us with, and give us a movie that really is worth watching, worth spending the money to go see, and worth telling your friends about, and not end up being a big disapointment.

So my use of the word "diehard" really meant a whole lot more to "me" than what I was saying at the time.

I should've left diehard out of the statement I guess, and chosen another word.

I didn't mean for one word to send you into a wondering state of mind or mess up your day!

I never install Quick Time that is like Blowing a Yak with a Virus and further more if you want a Trojan horse full of seamen in your computer you might as well pour four gallons of puréed fish heads into your computer case.

Same goes for Kazza or MSN or Net.Framework or Irc or Gamevoice or RogerWilco or any of those piece of crap software programs ICQ included.

If you want to instantly screw your computer install Netscape with a large amount of finely ground Garlic pepper into XP!!

To bad about Netscape it used to be my favourite browser I have not used it in 4 years now ;( It was first designed by astronomers to communicate night sky findings instantly or within minutes so they could collaborate the findings by triangulation of the target.

Now Microsoft has turned it into a Windows XP reinstall within minutes!!

I totally agree, I use a Quicktime plugin for Windows Media Player it allows WMP to play back Quicktime formatted streaming video, theres also a Realplayer plugin for WMP, if you're interested I set a link below to the download page, works just fine with XP.

This is all new dude, different director with a few ties back to the original story, but basically going in a different direction, but definitely all the necessary elements to scare the crap out of you, and give you a good thrill ride. If he does it right it'll be something to talk about for sure, if not a big flop, but at least something for true SciFi fans to look forward to. :smile:

Flamey the release date is August 2004, so far they've released 3 featurettes to give us a taste of what the movies about, I would imagine FOX has bankrolled a chunk of money into this film, it'll either be a successful new step to the story from a completely different point of view, trying to salvage the crap of Alien 3 & 4, and Predator 2, or a massive flop for FOX and the total end of the story lines period. I'm obviously hoping for a success!!! :smile:

Yes he was and I totally agree, and though she looks good, Sigorney Weaver milked the Alien series dry and then some.

Ya I was seriously disappointed in Alien 3 and 4. 4 especially. It was just terrible. 1 and 2 rocked though.

When I first heard of this movie, I didn't think there were gonna be people in it. Just thought it would be an Aliens vs. Predator killfest. But I guess you need people or else there's no real substance to it. After seeing these latest featurettes, I'm not as excited about it as I was. Looks like it may turn out to be pretty cornball. I'll still see it in the theatre though. Hell, the first Terminator 3 trailer I saw, I thought that movie looked utterly terrible, but it turned out to kick some mean ass. So who knows.

They need to make a Terminator 4, with no Arnold, and they need to turn "The Second Rennaisance" from the Animatrix into a live action, full lenth movie. That would rock.
