Will it Fry...or just under-perform?

Hi!

I'm not extremely tech-oriented (as will soon become evident. :pt1cable:  )

Not that long ago, a computer salesperson told me that a graphics card requiring a PCIe X16 (?) **2.1** motherboard slot will "work just fine" in a PCIe X16 **2.0** slot. Is this true? ...Or would the card "fry"...or just under-perform?

What would result if a graphics card requiring a **3.0** PCIe X16 slot is plugged into a **2.0** PCIe X16 slot? :o

Any insights given will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

It will work fine and with no performance loss.
With gpus i'd be worried with the psu and not the pci 2.0 slot 16x.
