I know this is somewhat off topic.
I was talking to a co-worker who recently came back from vacation. Just
small talk while waiting for a meeting to start. We never really had much in
common. Anyway, he mentions that he bought a nice camera while on vacation
and had taken digital slr. Wow, I was now more interested in this than the
meeting! anyway, he explains how much fun he has been having, and learning a
lot, but still a long ways to go. I ask him what he bought, and he said for
him it came down to a D50 or a 20D. He went with the D50 because he was so
new at it, and it cost less. I told him I had the 20D and that I liked my
camera as well. So, over the next few days we are comparing notes at lunch
and so forth. We head up to the balcony and shoot the river scenery off the
20th floor. I edged him on to buy another lens, a zoom. He did, and is now
ribbing me to get a better lens as well. We both are having fun and
learning, and neither of us care that we have different models. The pics out
of both are great, at least to us.
So, once in a while forget about specs/brands and alliances and go have some
fun. I found that seeing someone else try to figure out what most of the
options are is a relief!
Sorry for the off topic, but I hope it made some sense.

(50 or 55) - 200mm. I don't think it was a premium lens, something like
150 - 250 price range I think.
