How can I read closed captions / CC in LD? Is later model laserdisc
player able to do the trick or do I need a special decoder? Please
help.

The closed captioning decoder would be built into the TV, not the LD
player.

most of the newer TV's incorporate CC decoders-- stand-alone units have been
the norm. most laserdiscs have the codons in the signal, but like broadcast
TV. it requires decoding. some VCR's have decoders built in, but i've never
known of this incorporated into a laserdisc player. if you need one, they
are made available very cheaply, and even free, by support groups for
hearing impaired viewers. closed-captioning is software dependent-- look for
the logo on the jacket of your favorite laserdiscs. enjoy--:)

If you are in the US (or Japan?) these are build in the tv-set.
If you are in Europe you need a seperate decoder.

For the US posters : In Europe we have another system called 'teletext' to
put subtitles in the picture. This System is also used to give news,
wheather forecast etc in an 'ascii' format on your tv.

IF the LD has CC, you just turn them on in the menu for your tv...
