Advice needed

Dear readers of this post,

I need some help to figure something out:

I am now running bf3 @ ultra 1920x1080p fps: 18-25.

Build:
p5w dh deluxe
E6600 duo core 2.4ghz
gtx550ti 1.5gb
600watt psu
good case
8gb ram @ 800mhz

Now the question. I have a budget for 400 euro's I am very enthusiastic about the build:
Gigabyte z77x d3h / i5 3570k / corsair vengeance lp 8gb dualchannel.

As I have a tight budget, my question is. Could I run Bf3 with better FPS with the new mobo / i5 processor / ram combined with my GTX550TI 1.5gb. I am willing to O'C my GTX550TI as this one is keen on OCing.

I need some recommendations, or sell my old system for 150 euro's so I can put that into my new system for a new GPU.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

From a Helpless noob :-)

You have a low end GPU + CPU. What resolution are you running at? 1366x768?

Also, Multiplayer or Singleplayer?

The build you propose should be fine. An i5 will help you with BF3 multiplayer. Your GPU isn't horrible but it isn't the best. You will want to upgrade it soon as well.

@samuelspark
I am now running bf3 @ ultra 1920x1080p fps: 18-25.

As I said earlier in the post. (multiplayer)

@tiny voice.
Thank you, I needed to hear that It will help me in mp, 18-25 fps on ultra settings @ 1920x1080 is just an indication, on lowest settings and 1920x1080p in mp it performs between 35-42 fps, in heavy combat drops to 25 fps.

I will have to upgrade my gpu, my budget just doesnt let me.
So do you guys advice me going for this build mobo/cpu/ram or a new gfx card?
I cant invest my money on a new mobo/cpu/ram AND a new gfx card, because the budget is too small. MAX 400 euros.

Thnx for your reply

better fps yes, smooth on ultra no.

to give you an idea my 4ghz 2500k paired with 560ti couldn't handle ultra @hd.
my setting was med-hi (mostly med) for it to run 40-60+
im using 670 now, ultra settings

You won't get ultra settings with your GPU. You will get playable multiplayer with medium settings. At this point its all your GPU. I would save for one and get it after you upgrade everything else.

Allright cons29. Thank you for this information.

Honestly, I am not willing to play this smooth on ultra, just acceptable FPS better than 25fps in heavy combat. Its so annoying when its dropping down to 25 :-)

So you have a 2500k combined a 560 ti 40-60 fps med, allright seems good to me.

At the time im saving up money for a new gpu. At this time I could buy a 670/680, but would you recommend that to me? while im running a duo core @ 2.4 gigz now?

Thank you tiny voices.

1 Corsair Vengeance CML8GX3M2A1600C9 Low Profile € 41,90 € 41,90

Would this be a good upgrade?

It would be better for you right at this time to do the motherboard/cpu/ram. Your current cpu would bottleneck anything over a 560ti.

Yes that would be a perfect upgrade. It will get you high settings.

Make sure to get a motherboard with a b75 chipset because an h61 chipset will need a bios update to work with an ive bridge cpu.
January 9, 2013 2:02:19 PM

True, this CPU already bottlenecks my GTX550TI when I OC it.. :/

Do this. Before the sales end.
January 9, 2013 2:04:29 PM

oke. Shouldnt it be better going for the gigabyte z77x d3h/i5 3570k + that ram? and just save up money for a videocard ''club 3d 7870 tahiti LE 2gb for 210 euros?

I live in the netherlands, we dont have amazon over here =[

you have a good board, how about trying to oc your cpu to above 3ghz and see what happens.

im using 670 right now, playing bf3 mp with all bells and whistles no problem.
note that bf3 eats up @ ~1.7gb of gpu memory (those are what i saw a few times)

im using inno3d ichill, i dont know how to post pictures so just google it, there are lots of other rams, but just take a look at what i bought :)

it run 49-50c most of the time, 54-55 when not using aircon :)

my advice, oc first then check then upgrade cpu if you want

at this point in time, this i5 won't be different enough from a 3570k to see a difference and it will help you ALOT in multiplayer. The 7850 is a BIG upgrade from your 550ti and will get you high settings.

Even overclocked, there is no hope for his CPU. Upgrading is his best bet.

@Cons29I have tried OCING the E6600, I failed (blue screened on me)
@tinyvoice Allright, so youd say go for:
1 Intel Core i5 3330 Boxed € 159,60 € 159,60
1 Asrock H61M-GS € 37,58 € 37,58
1 Club3D Radeon HD 7850 royalQueen € 155,50 € 155,50
1 Corsair Vengeance CML8GX3M2A1600C9 Low Profile € 41,90 € 41,90

- H61 but get a B75 mobo, right?
January 9, 2013 2:10:10 PM

i didn't say it will not bottleneck since he's using a 2 cores, having quad will help alot in bf3.

Yeah, just grab what I posted and you will be good.
January 9, 2013 2:12:11 PM

true, I am aware of that. I find 400 euro's allot of money, and im not willing to spend another 400 next year. I did 5 years with the build ive got now because the p5w DH deluxe mobo has allot to offer, with the E6600 duo core. The only thing Ive replaced on this build is 1 time the GPU card..

I want the best build that I can get for the lowest price that lasts about 3 years without having to ugprade my mobo/cpu or ram again. GPU, they last a little shorter, wich I am aware of..

You will be very happy with the upgrade list I posted. It will last you a long time and the GPU is strong enough to get get you high settings in all modern games.
